Our Yorkshire Christmas Cockerel Crowns are specially prepared from award-winning Yorkshire Cockerels, reared on family farms across East Yorkshire. These birds are grown slowly and naturally for a firm texture, rich flavour, and that traditional roast chicken taste that’s been lost in modern breeds.
Sourcing:
Soanes Poultry has been farming in Yorkshire for generations. The business began in the 1950s when Clive Soanes started rearing broilers in the garden at Church Hill Farm, and it’s still run with the same family values today. The cockerels are raised on wheat grown by the Soanes family, ensuring complete control over quality and sustainability.
About the Cockerel:
Reared with exceptional care and high welfare standards, the Yorkshire Christmas Cockerel develops a distinctive depth of flavour — succulent, meaty, and satisfying. In 2022, it was recognised with a prestigious Great Taste Award, with judges praising it as “succulent, very meaty, with a good cockerel flavour.”
About the Crown:
The crown is the breast and wing meat left on the bone — easy to carve, quick to cook, and perfect for a smaller Christmas table. At around 1.5kg, it serves approximately 4–6 people and delivers a generous, flavour-packed roast without any waste.
Animal Welfare:
Soanes Poultry’s Red Tractor accreditation ensures every bird is raised to the highest welfare standards. The birds live in spacious, welfare-rich environments where their natural behaviours are encouraged — a difference that truly shows in the taste and texture.
Cooking & Serving:
Roast with butter and herbs for a golden, crisp skin and moist, tender meat. Serve with roast potatoes, winter greens, and a splash of homemade gravy for a Christmas centrepiece that captures the flavour of real farmhouse poultry.
