Description
Only a handful of people produce traditional, fresh blood black pudding. The rest use imported dried blood powder.
Fresh blood black pudding is so rare you have probably never bought or tasted it before. Ours is a sumptuous mix of fresh blood, oats, pearl barley, onions, fat and spices. Grill or fry….get the outside crunchy and serve.
It’s an International Award Winner and a Great Taste 2014 winner.
Fresh blood black pudding fell out of favour during the BSE crisis when a ban was put on harvesting the blood. It has now become too difficult for the larger producers in the UK to source fresh blood in significant quantities and there is not a UK source of dried blood. Producers now rely on imports of dried blood to make their black puddings.
We are lucky to work with the Fruit Pig Company who have a consistent supply of fresh blood from a local slaughterhouse and so are able to make their black puddings in a traditional way as butchers used to.
Black pudding is great for breakfast and pairs perfectly with eggs. The flavours of the pudding pair well with a variety of different foods, but bacon and black pudding must be a match made in heaven!

The difference is in the freshness – both the taste and the texture made this so much better than supermarket bought black pudding.

Not to my liking

The freshest, lightest bleck pudding I’ve had. A little peppery for my liking and missed the mark when compared to my benchmark, Stornaway.

I have previously rated highly the black pudding from the Scottish islands. However, the black pudding from Grid Iron is tasty and well-spiced and is better than any that I have tasted to date.

Best black pudding I have tasted

Bought this Pudding to compete against a family favorite. I got mint at first followed by a warm spice feel. Will have to have a stand off with our favorite, going to be a close fight.
