The secret recipe for Doreens’s black pudding was devised by Doreen Haigh over 20 years ago. The black puddings are oven baked rather than boiled concentrating the puddings flavour in the most effective way to give a drier, meatier taste.

Ingredients: water, pork fat, rusk wheat (GLUTEN), flour, salt, rising agent e503, barley (GLUTEN) flakes, Haemoglobin powder, salt, dried onion powder, spices (coriander, pepper, pimento), herbs (sage, spearmint, thyme, marjoram), flavouring, dried blood, hydrolysed vegetable protein(SOYBEAN), spice extract, anticaking agent e551.

It is a marmite experience, I like Blood wurst as my continental cousins call it. My main delight is that it does not absorbe the cooking medium and stays firm without crumbing as oat laden puddings do. It fries well and is good on its own as with bacon. My favourite is tomato sauce or whole grain mustard.

I have sampled many different brands of black pudding and I have to say that Doreen’s is certainly the best I have tasted today. It is most definitely wkrth a try.

Our favourite out of the two types, we prefer slightly chunkier pieces in our black pudding so this one had everything we liked best in a pudding. This will be ordered every time.
